Sue Ross Legal are working with a well-known, regional firm of Solicitors who have an exciting new position for a Personal Injury / Clinical Negligence Fee Earner, based either at the Chesterfield, or Sheffield office.

The Role:

You will be responsible for a wide range of personal injury and clinical negligence claims. Often, the claims involve serious and catastrophic injuries, and you will therefore form part of the client’s vital support network, meaning that it is important that you build a strong relationship with the clients, ensuring that their individual needs are met in order to make a material difference to their life and obtaining for them the compensation they are entitled to.

There are three levels to this role: Assistant, Associate and Senior. As you progress through each level, the work you undertake will increase in complexity and value. At Senior level you will typically be working on claims in excess of £250,000. You will be required to take all the necessary information to continually assess the prospects of the claim, prepare documents to progress the claim, arrange treatment, rehabilitation and assistance as required, and obtain the necessary evidence to assess the quantum of the claim. You will work with some of the leading barristers in this field, whether from regional chambers or the London bar.

You will be expected to maintain client communication, work toward key milestones, and bring about the successful conclusion of our client’s claim.

The role will typically involve:

• Managing client’s expectations and keeping our client regularly informed of the claim’s progression;
• Preparing pre-action correspondence;
• Collating/reviewing liability documentation;
• Instructing Counsel for advice on liability and quantum;
• Attending Conferences;
• Taking witness statements;
• Advising our client of potential special damages claims, and collating and reviewing special damages documentation;
• Instructing medical experts and obtaining medical evidence in support of the claim;
• Arranging treatment, rehabilitation and assistance;
• Reviewing and making offers;
• Preparing documents for the litigation process, such as Claim Forms, Particulars of Claim, Directions Questionnaires, Part 18 Requests, Applications and Listing Questionnaires;
• Following Court Directions;
• Preparing the claim for Trial;
• Conducting litigation, advocacy and dispute resolution;
• Attending Applications and Case Management Conferences; and
• Attending Trials.
To be considered for this role it is essential that you have experience of a wide remit of Personal Injury and/ or Clinical Negligence matters. The ideal candidate will be extremely organised and efficient and will thrive in a busy, fast paced environment. You must demonstrate exceptional ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritise your own workload. Experience with multi-track is desired but not essential.

• An understanding of personal injury litigation and/or clinical negligence litigation;
• An understanding of the Pre-Action Protocols, CPR and litigation;
• An understanding of Solicitor/Client retainers.

For those with a desire to progress in their legal career, your role will become increasing more complex and, for those with the right aptitude, there is the opportunity to climb up the managerial ladder within the organisation starting with mentoring roles, through to supervisory roles and higher.
