Sue Ross Legal currently have an opportunity available for a Paralegal to join our client’s Data Protection & Privacy Litigation team at either their Sheffield city centre, or Chesterfield office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the conduct of legal claims arising from breaches of privacy and data protection law.

There are three levels to the paralegal role: the conduct of pre-action fast-track work; the conduct of litigated fast-track work; and the conduct of multi-track work. This role will see you providing support to Fee Earners within Data Protection Litigation and depending on your level of experience, handling your own small caseload of files.

You will be required to take all the necessary information to continually assess the prospects of the claim, prepare documents to progress the claim, and obtain evidence to assess the quantum of the claim. You will work with some of the leading barristers in this field and will often instruct regional chambers and the London bar.

The role will typically involve:

  • Taking all necessary information from clients in order to progress cases;
  • Maintaining regular communication with clients including managing expectations;
  • Preparing pre-action correspondence;
  • Collating/reviewing liability documentation;
  • Instructing Counsel for advice on liability and quantum;
  • Attending Conferences;
  • Taking witness statements;
  • Advising clients of potential special damages claims, and collating and reviewing special damages documentation;
  • Instructing medical experts and obtaining medical evidence in support of the claim;
  • Arranging treatment;
  • Reviewing and making offers;
  • Preparing documents for the litigation process, such as Claim Forms, Particulars of Claim, Directions Questionnaires, Part 18 Requests, Applications and Listing Questionnaires;
  • Following Court Directions;
  • Preparing the claim for Trial;
  • Conducting litigation, advocacy and dispute resolution;
  • Attending Applications and Case Management Conferences; and
  • Attending Trials.

Required skills:

  • Client management;
  • A good understanding of data protection compliance and cybersecurity;
  • A good understanding of the CPR and litigation; and
  • A good understanding of Solicitor/Client retainers.

For those with a desire to progress in their legal career, we can offer training programs to allow you to progress in the complexity of your paralegal role and, where appropriate, to qualify as a lawyer.

Typically between 9am and 5pm, but evening and weekend work is available.

Part-Time hours are also available.

To be considered for this role you should have at least 6 months experience gained in a similar level role, have the ability to prioritise workloads and have excellent client care and communication skills. As Data Protection law is quite niche, our client will look at candidates who have experience gained with similar duties within PI or Civil Litigation.
